Iowa Firefighters Memorial service
The 26th Annual Iowa Firefighters Memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial site in Coralville. Address for the site: 1 Russell Slade Blvd. (Exit 242 off of I-80). The annual Candlelight Service will be held on Saturday night, June 12th at 9 p.m. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic the 2020 memorial service was canceled and the 2020 and 2021 memorial services will be combined.
The names for the 2020 service have been engraved on the memorial walls.
We have t-shirts, sweatshirts, memorial patches, tote bags, koozies, 25th anniversary coins, memorial history books, and history DVD’s available.
The next cut off date for engraving names on the walls will be May 10, 2022. Be sure to fill out the proper form as you see it in the “Iowa Firefighter” or you can download the form at www.iowafirememorial.org.
If you have questions please contact Mike Reuman. We need those completed forms to help us contact the families of the departed when it comes close to the time of the annual memorial service. Also be sure to print clearly or type the names so that we can read them and not have any mistakes.
The criteria for adding a name on the memorial walls (outside of the line of duty) is the deceased firefighter must have served a minimum of 10 years on an Iowa fire department or died while an active member of an Iowa fire department. The cost to have a name engraved on the wall is $100 and must be paid by the family or fire department. Send completed forms to Mike Reuman, Chairman of the Iowa Firefighters Memorial committee.
Since the names going on the Memorial Walls for 2020 and 2021 will be very low on the walls and we expect a larger than normal crowd, we would ask that you not bring wreaths this year. We will have available, containers of long-stemmed carnations, available to take up to the walls. (Free Will Donation) You will announce into a microphone who you will be honoring. We would like to ask you to limit your flowers to one per name. We have well over 200 new names on the walls.
