Residential fire

The Pierre Fire Department responded to a residential fire at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Monday, November 10, in the 100 block of Lakeview Court. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters initially launched a defensive attack, battling the fire from the exterior due to the intensity of the flames. “The home was too involved with heavy fire to safely send anyone inside,” said Pierre Fire Assistant Chief Brandon McCarthy. “We conducted a majority of our operations from the exteriorwith minimal interior work due to the condition of the structure.” Two adults were displaced because of the fire, and one resident wastreated for smoke inhalation, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The single-wide mobile home sustained significant damage and is considered a total loss. The fire appears to have originated in the area of the kitchen and investigators have determined the cause to be accidental. No foul play is suspected. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours, with assistance fromAMR, Ft. Pierre Fire, local law enforcement, and City of Pierre Electric Department.
