In December 2024 and January 2025, we examined the four attributes of smoke: velocity, volume, density, and color. Understanding each attribute is important, but firefighters must also know how to combine those observations into a quick, repeatable size-up.

     It will soon be vacation time.  After the last day of school, many of your families will be traveling to various locations for some much needed rest and fun.

     The Avon Fire Department and the Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the roof of the Power’s Furniture and Appliance store on Main Street in Avon, at 7:23 p.m.

     In the colder months it is difficult to come up with activities for training in firefighting. This winter seems to be dragging on much longer than the past years.
